Inspired by Giorgio Armani’s new 2008/09 Armani/Casa home furnishings collection, the Armani/Samsung Premium LCD TV was designed for “a discriminating consumer” that seeks a “sophisticated design and leading flat screen technology”.
The Armani/Samsung Premium LCD TV does look handsome. The simple and elegant design is something that I like in high-tech products. But there are some problems.

Sharp was the first to introduce a Full HD 32″ LCD TV with a pixel format of 1920 x 1080. Almost everyone in the display community thought that was overkill. I wonder why. Well, the reasoning was that our visual system couldn’t distinguish the increased resolution at the distances that we would be watching a 32″ LCD TV. That’s probably true. But, there are a lot of folks out there that play Xbox 360, PS3 and PC games on their 1080p-capable LCD TVs. And when they do that, my guess is that they play a bit closer to the box than if they were simply watching video. I think 32″ LCD TVs with a 1920 x 1080 pixel format will be quite popular.

The 52″ version has the model name LN52A750R1F. Samsung Korea is calling this series simply Bordeaux 750. The company is also stating that this is a new kind of TV and is putting the stamp on these as TV 2.0. Why TV 2.0? Samsung has teamed up with Naver and YouTube so the user can directly access these two portals by connecting the Bordeaux 750 LCD TVs to the Internet via the Ethernet connection. BTW, Naver is the major Internet portal site in South Korea.

Samsung’s 81F Series LCD TVs come in four sizes: 40″, 46″, 52″, and 57″. All are driven by a LED backlight. The advantages of a LED backlight are many and one of the features Samsung calls LED Motion Plus is important. The LED Motion Plus cycles eight rows of LEDs progressively and sequentially turns each row on and off every eight of a second. This greatly improves motion blur.

Samsung will introduce a 40″ Full HD LCD TV panel that is just 10.0mm (0.3937″) thick. The bezel was reduced too: from 30mm (1.18″) to a slender 14.6mm (0.57″). The panel is incorporates a LED backlight that generates a color gamut of 92% NTSC. Not only is Samsung’s 10mm-thick 40″ super slim, it also consumes very little power: 90 watts or less. Can’t wait to see the Samsung LCD TV that will use this panel!
