Pioneer KURO Front Projectors and LCD TVs
Pioneer’s KURO plasma display panel (PDP) TVs have extreme performance and has set the standard for black levels. Pioneer has stated that it will introduce KURO front projectors and LCD TVs.
The second generation KURO PDP TVs feature a near absolute black by reducing the idle luminance. Compared to the 2007 KURO models, the second generation has black levels that are five times darker according to Pioneer. The second generation KURO PDP TVs are available in 50″ and 60″ sizes. The KURO PDP TVs are also very thin at just 9.4 cm or 3.7″.

JVC to End Domestic Production and Sales of FPD TVs
On April 16, 2008, Victor Co. of Japan (JVC) announced the decision to end its domestic production and sales of flat panel display (FPD) TVs this summer. JVC will instead focus on the European and US markets as retail prices of FPD TVs in Japan have experienced sharp declines while sales in other markets such as Europe and the US have been healthy. JVC is the 6th largest FPD TV manufacturer in Japan. In FY2007, JVC posted a pre-tax loss of JPY8 billion (about US$80 million). In the same timeframe, the company reported that 30% of its LCD TV sales were in Japan out of a total of one million LCD TVs. JVC is expected to terminate its TV production line in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture.

CMO 52″ LCD TV Panel in First Quarter 2007
Note: It is already the second quarter of 2007 and towards the end of it. So this blog post is from a long long time ago… I’m more interested in the iPhone than anything else as of now, especially because it debuts on my birthday! Anyone feeling the need to give? Let me know! Anyway, here is the post on CMO’s 52″. We all know that 52″ is the next big size after 40″/42″ and 46″/47″.
Chi Mei Optoelectronic’s (CMO) 52″ LCD TV will sport a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, a brightness of 500 cd/m2, a contrast ratio of 1500:1, and a 6ms response time. The 52″ monster will be built on CMO’s G5.5 LCD fab that can cut two 52″ panels at a time. A G5.5 is more optimized for larger LCD monitors such as the newly introduced 19″ wide and 22″ wide monitors. With a monthly capacity of its G5.5 plant at 120,000 glass substrate input going up to 180,000 by December, you can bet CMO will be churning out a lot of 52″ LCD TVs to make a lot of profits. If you want to have a look at the 52″ LCD TV from CMO, hop on over to FPD International 2006 that will be held from October 18 – 20 in Yokohama, Japan.
But let’s not get too excited here: We’ve already seen a 100″ LCD prototype (and I really mean prototype) from LG.Philips LCD (LPL) at SID 2006 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco this year. Also, Sharp is already shipping a 65″ LCD TV, which I saw at a Magnolia store in Palo Alto, California. And don’t forget Samsung’s 82″ prototype.

ByD:sign, EyeFi LF-4200DFK, LF4700DFK: Affordable 1080p 42″, 47″
ByD:sign / EyeFi introduces their LF-4200DFK and LF-4700DFK. As the model names suggest the LF-4200DFK is a 42″ LCD TV and the LF-4700DFK is a 47″ version. Both are able to show Full HD 1080p content with a pixel format of 1920 x 1080. Impress (Japanese), via Engadget, is stating the LCD TV panel supplier to be Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO). The LCD features a 1200:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 500 cd/m2. The 47″ has a slightly faster response time (6.0ms) compared to the 42″ (6.5ms). Both response times are respectably fast, however, it is not response times alone that reduce motion blur problems.

On the TV electronics side, both TVs have a Faroudja DCDi scaler, integrated analog and digital tuners, HDMI, VGA (D-Sub 15) with composite and S-Video too. The price for Full HD 1080p capability is quite affordable at around $1900 for the LF-4200DFK and about $2300 for the LF-4700DFK. The identical design for both is very simple and all black, which is a combination that I appreciate.
Both TVs are billed as one of the cheapest Full HD 1080p HD sets so it is unreasonable to expect 120Hz, blinking or dimming backlights, and improved color gamuts via LEDs or Wide Color Gamut (WCG) CCFLs. But, these features have become essential for optimum viewing of fast motion video, especially those who are looking for Full HD 1080p sets.
